In an earlier post “Maybe the 5th time’s the charm” I knew a paint over was in order. So I painted over it, now I’m finished. So glad i can put this 30″x40″ to bed.
Here’s the 5th try and although it was early in the painting I knew it was wrong.
Then I thought maybe just a flower was in order. Well that was wrong.
Painted out the flower and drew in this, it’s hard to see but I thought ah-ha fingers crossed, this will work.
And now the final painting. Done.
I have a difficult time when painting on small panels. In this case the panel is an 8×10 inch and I find those really hard to paint on because I really just don’t own many small brushes, and even if I did I just find it difficult to paint little things. I painted 6 different paintings on this one panel and below I have images of 4 of them. The first 2 paintings I don’t have pictures of so we’ll pick up from the third piece.

Just the drawing for the fifth one, but the painting was repulsive.
This is during the process of the 6th painting, I never decide on the hairstyle till the end it’s always the last thing I paint.
I’m often asked to show close ups of my paintings to see technique so here are a couple
I often get asked about how I paint so smooth, but you can see from the last pic and this one that don’t. I don’t even paint very well. I really just draw with the paint and make quick little marks till it looks like something.

I was going to take the day off from painting and build some panels before the rain came into town, but then I decided to sketch something out. After doing the sketch below I then decided that maybe I’ll just paint the eyes since that doesn’t take too long. 2 and a half hours later it was done and the rain hadn’t arrived yet so I started on some panel making. So the day went well with a finished 16″ x 12″ painting titled “Songbird” and 3 panels. I love finishing things.
I bought 8 big sheets of some great Arches paper the weight escapes me at this moment but it’s pretty smooth I then cut it up into smaller 8″x 11″ sheets. I’ve been really busy with a few things lately so I haven’t had the time for painting so I bought the paper to just do some silly sketches to keep me stimulated. Here’s two and I’ll post some more soon.
I do some terrible sketches. I did this on a the back of a flier for an upcoming raggae festival I found at JV’s Mexican Food while waiting for a burrito and for some reason I decided to make it a painting. Why? Who knows. So I went home and ate my machaca burrito and then I painted the stupid sketch.
I had a chance to get back to work finally so today I sketched this out. The only problem I have is that I cannot get to the actual painting of it today and that sucks. Maybe tomorrow.
