Pinups and Pussycats

Due to an unexpected event I won’t be able to make it out to the Sundance scene this year which is always a good time and the Silver Queen folks are always great to see but this year I’ll be staying put in San Diego. I will miss it. So I got quite a few emails about what I’m showing in the Pinups and Pussycats show at Silver Queen so  I’ll post some images some of which have been posted before. I did 10 collaborative pieces with Frank Gonzales and 11 solo pieces. I don’t have pictures of the collaborative pieces so I’ll just be showing my solo pieces for now, so click the thumbnails and enjoy, I’m going to take a shower.

About Face

This next friday I have a piece in a group show called About Face at WWA Gallery . It seems to be a good show with a bunch of good artist representing different perspectives on portraiture. So if you’re in the Los Angeles area I’ll be at the show so stop in and say hello. Here’s some images of my piece. I took some detail shots to give an idea of how the painting looks and feels in person. Oh and yes, I do mix my paints on aluminum foil. It makes my cleanup so much easier.

2 more

Here are two more for Frank to finish. I’m going slow at building pieces for him because he’s working on a few things. We’re doing 10 in total, but I’m going to hit the last 6 pretty soon so I have time to send them out and he has time to work on them.

For Frank #2

Here’s another piece going out for Frank Gonzales to finish. It will be traveling in the same box as the last posted painting. I hope these two ladies are chatty because it’s a long drive. The next pieces I start for Frank to finish will be completely different from these two, well at least they are in my head. The trick is to get out what I see in my head on a panel.

For Frank

So I haven’t been posting very often lately but I have been painting a lot because I have a few shows coming up. Here’s a painting I did that I’ll be sending out to New York for Frank Gonzales to finish and add his sweet little touches to it. We’re going to be doing 10 collabs for a show during the Sundance film festival.

LOST

During my studio cleanup I found this old painting inside the closet. I used to love ths painting and to tell you the truth I still love it. So simple and the only hard part was I glued some corn husk along the left side with the aid of  liquitex gel medium. Why did I put corn husk on the side, why not? I don’t remember the title so I’ll just call it “Lost” for now. It was painted sometime between 2003-2005 I think, I painted it for a solo show at Scribble Theory Gallery which was the best gallery in Orange County, California at the time till they closed up. It was a great place to see good work showing guys like Derek Hess, Frank Gonzales, Blaine Fontana, Jophen Stein and a bunch of other great artist. I think It would be great if they could do a reunion show but oh well time marches on I guess.
